Our Goal: $30,000 by May 31st

If you are visiting this website, chances are that you have studied under Mary Heiny or attended one of her seminars. Chances are also that you appreciate her for her mastery and her commitment to the art. One of the first western women to study aikido in Japan, Mary is a living treasure and a good friend of the aikido community.

Mary's ability to teach aikido is at risk. After surviving polio as a child, and after years of hard aikido training in Japan in her twenties, she is suffering from severe and painful arthritis in her left hip and needs to undergo hip replacement surgery. Without this surgery, not only will she be forced to give up teaching aikido but will also be severely disabled in daily life.

For more details on the medical options and plans for making Mary's hip replacement a reality, please read the Letter of Support.

This is an appeal among friends on behalf of a friend. We are asking you for your support to help make Mary's surgery possible. Our goal is to raise $30,000 by May 31st. Ambitious? Not really, not if we all pitch in. Please contribute. Please make a difference.
