Westwind Center for Aikido

The Westwind Center for Aikido was founded by Mary's surgeon, Dr. Russell Bodner, and features a beautiful and large practice mat. It is located in Sycamore, Il, just north of DeKalb and about an hour west of Chicago.
If you are visiting this website, chances are that you have studied under Mary Heiny or attended one of her seminars. Chances are also that you appreciate her for her mastery and her commitment to the art. One of the first western women to study aikido in Japan, Mary is a living treasure and a good friend of the aikido community.
Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the aikido community we have not only met our fundraising goal, but met it early. Mary had her hip replaced on June 3 in DeKalb, IL. Her surgeon was Dr. Russell Bodner, a hip replacement specialist and aikido teacher at the University of Northern Illinois Aikido Club. We all owe Dr. Bodner a heartfelt thank you for his professionalism and generosity in arranging the operation.
